Calligramme (Letter to future self)

Image
Artist Statement:      Today, on January 30th, 2024, I created my first calligram, focusing on design and shapes to format specific text as a film camera. I could first trace my film camera using a basic design with the pen tool in Illustrator. I ensured each section of the film camera had its own outlined shape so that I could manipulate the shapes and turn them into my text. From then on, I used countless features to ensure that the camera had depth and that the overall art piece could have been more varied and exciting. I used  the Type, Type on Path, and Area Type tools. I also added a little bit of effects and distortion. Such as distorting my first and last name as the circle in the middle of both the film reels or adding a more highlighted/bolded outside to the main body of the camera to add this effect that it looks like a film camera itself and not just a jumble of words smooshed together.       My inspiration for using a film came...

Video 1:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NBKRywEbNs The first video that I searched was defiantly the most interesting for me to learn because it not only helped me understand the tools but it gave good background information at the beginning of the video for what Illustrator should be used for and how to manage not just the tools which are obviously the most important but the information to create a file or workspace that pans out exactly to the project that you want to create while also explaining what a vector image is in order to shop us why vector images are best to use for the best results from this application. None of the tools seem too hard to work with it is just understanding which one does what. For example, in the video, when discussing the two selection tools, they both do two completely different jobs, but I feel it can be hard when first using this application to remember which one does a specific function over the other. But...

Internet and World Wide Web  For years, people have evolved themselves around the digital world. As the future begins to unfold, so does technology, making bigger and bigger leaps into our society. Many don't notice, but at one point, people used to live without this form of technology. The creation of the World Wide Web and the Internet has helped the world begin this transformation into the future. But people still, to this day, genuinely need to understand the actual facts behind both the World Wide Web and the Internet. As someone who has lived with them my whole life, it is essential to talk about them from a learning standpoint.  Widely considered as the birthday of the Internet, January 1st, 1983, was when the Internet was born to transform the world into what it is today. At first, this creation was to be used primarily for government reasons. This idea was first transformed during ...

Blog #1 (Introduction Post)

Introduction  January 19th, 2024            My name is Andrew Dimino; I am studying at the University of Tampa Film and Media Arts BFA. For a while now, I've had a passion for film; the emotions felt after watching a soul-crushing, horror-inducing, or action-packed cinema are like no other. Going to YouTube to watch explaining videos on cliffhangers or confusing endings that make viewers think for hours or days after watching the film is why I'm so dedicated to studying in this field. But I'm also interested in the media part; the editing, special effects, lighting, and cropping of specific shots make a film good or bad. The behind-the-scenes workers are the ones who visually make the film pleasing to the eye of the viewer. This love for the film began in sophomore year of high school when Cobvid 19 forced all schools to shut down. For weeks, I had nothing better to do but get into movies and TV shows. The first and greatest show I have eve...
