Artist statement:

Today, in Digital Media, I created my first ever Photoshop image using Adobe Photoshop. Before I started anything in the actual application itself, I first started with the image I was gonna use. I got the inspiration to use an image from the movie The Wolf Of Wall Street because that movie is one of the movies that first got me into film, so it was special to me to use an image from the movie, mainly because it's one of my favorites of all time. To really blend in, I took a picture of myself sitting down with a suit on, and then I turned to look at Jordan Belfort (the character in the film) just as almost everyone else is sitting in the background of the scene. Although the picture could have definitely been better to make it more realistic as it doesn't really look like I'm looking straight on at the character in the film.

Once I had the images ready, I first used the Quick Selection Tool and carefully outlined myself to make sure I got what I needed to cut out and to make it look as smooth as possible. Once I got my figure out, I used the masking tool and the quick selection tool for the telephone and table so that I could make it seem as if I was behind those objects in the shot. Once I successfully did that, I made my figure smaller and fit it into that space. Once that was done, I went back to the mask of my figure and used the brush tool to carefully eliminate any spots that had to go away, making it again more crisp. But even after that, I wasn't done; I then used the Hue/Saturation feature, changing the tone of my skin and the color temperature to make it match up as closely as possible to the features of the other character. Creating a bright skin tone for my own figure. Then, to really complete the project, I used the blur feature to fix my figure to match the blur of the image. Since the image had a natural blur to it, I was also forced to have this blur for myself.

Although this project was somewhat troubling in most parts for me, it's great to see how easy this can be once you understand how easy mechanic works. I am definitely not there yet with any of the features, but slowly im learning how to Photoshop images, create new looks for them, and build them to look as natural as possible. I really enjoyed this project, though, because it brings a fun aspect to all of it, having to place yourself into your favorite film. Overall, it makes for a fun and exciting project.
