"All At Once" Triptych Film

"All At Once"

Artist Statement:

For this assignment, I created a short two-minute experimental film titled “All At Once” using Adobe Premiere. The project focused on a triptych layout, where three moving images play at the same time side by side. We were encouraged to explore rhythm, texture, and juxtaposition using archival or found footage, and this format gave me the chance to reflect on something bigger than just the visuals.

At first, I approached the film as an experimental editing challenge—layering videos, adjusting textures, and playing with opacity and movement. I used a combination of public domain footage, abstract overlays, and historical clips. The left and right frames often mirror or repeat footage, while the center blends everything together with overlays and distortion. I focused on timing and motion so that everything felt like it was happening all at once—hence the title. But as the editing went on, the piece started to take on deeper meaning. This film ended up being a reflection on how life is constantly moving forward, all around us, even when we’re not paying attention. The scenes show people, places, nature, and time evolving together—buildings age, crowds move, kids grow up, and the universe just keeps going. It’s about how we’re all connected to the world around us, and how nature, society, and time keep evolving side-by-side, often without us even noticing. It’s a visual reminder that while we grow and change, so does everything else—quietly, constantly, all at once.

Even though there’s no traditional plot or dialogue, the video tells a story through contrast, repetition, and motion. Every frame is part of a bigger pattern—just like how individual lives are part of a larger system we often overlook. This project pushed me to think less literally and more conceptually. It was fun to step outside of my usual design process and just let the footage guide the meaning. Overall, it taught me how editing and timing alone can create emotion and tell a story—even without words.
