"A Simple Life" Amnesia Film

"A Simple Life"

Artist Statement:

For this project, I created an experimental short film called “A Simple Life,” using Adobe Premiere. It’s a visual and audio-based film that explores something many of us forget about in our everyday routines: the beauty of the simple things around us. The whole idea behind this piece came from the feeling that we often rush through life without stopping to notice the world we’re living in—like the way the wind blows, how the grass grows, or how the sunlight hits a tree.

The film uses natural footage I shot—trees, flowers, leaves, roots, branches—layered and blended together to create dreamy textures and soft visuals. I played with opacity, blending modes, and slow motion to make everything feel kind of faded, like a memory that’s starting to blur. This connects to the theme of amnesia—not the literal kind, but the way we forget how lucky we are to experience the small details of life. The audio design plays a huge role in the tone. I layered soft crickets, wind sounds, rustling leaves, and wind chimes to build a calming soundscape that runs throughout the video. There’s no dialogue or narration—just ambient sounds that make you slow down and really take it all in. I wanted it to feel peaceful and meditative, like something you’d watch to escape or reflect.

Visually and emotionally, this film is about gratitude—for nature, for the land we live on, and for the little things we pass every day but never stop to appreciate. It’s easy to forget we’re surrounded by beauty, especially in a country like this where it’s all around us if we just pause and look.

Creating this was honestly really grounding. It helped me slow down and remember what matters, even in the middle of everything else going on. I didn’t want to overcomplicate the message—just keep it simple, quiet, and meaningful. That’s why I chose the mirrored title “A Simple Life”—because sometimes what we need is right in front of us… we just don’t notice it until we really stop and reflect.
